The New AEB-2/AUB-2 Scroll Basses
A Quick Preview- Page 3

Here are some shots of the bodies under construction. It's been almost a complete redesign, particularly around the back end.

Here are the tops and backs for the five bodies, with all of the internal chambers routed into them.

Here, the F-holes have been cut and all of the routing from the top side is complete. Notice the black in the grain on the surfaces.

The inside of the F-holes are scraped to clean out the glue residue, then the edges are filed and scraped smooth. The edges are coated with a black glue mixture to seal the end grain and make them durable.

The tops and backs are glued together and the perimeters routed. Next, the front and back surfaces will be filled with black epoxy and scraped clean before the F-holes are cut through.

Here are bodies #038, #039, and #040, back to front, after the brass bridge blocks have been installed, and I've started the process of filling the end grain and preparing for paint.

The perimeter of the body is coated with grain filler, which is then sanded down and smoothed.

Each neck is fitted to its body, and aligned using this aluminum bar fixture. The holes for two steel dowel pins are drilled from the back, through the neck bar pockets. These make sure that the neck can't shift in relation to the body.

After joining the neck and body, the area around the neck/body joint is trimmed flush and blended.
