The New AEB-2/AUB-2 Scroll Basses
A Quick Preview- Page 2

Here are some shots of the necks under construction. I haven't made many changes to the neck design, but I'm cutting the scallop around the outside of the headstock deeper than before, which gives the headstock a more dramatic look.

From left to right are necks #038, #039, #040, #041, and #042. At this point, the headstocks are fully shaped, the fingerboards are glued on, and I've started shaping the backs of the necks.

Here the fingerboards are being glued on. That's #038 in the background, and #039 in the foreground.

The sides of neck #042 being trimmed and planed flat.

The pickguard for the new model is quite intricate. You can see the big cutouts necessary for the twin pickups and the tailpieces, which doesn't leave much material. At the back are the holes for the three controls and the three output jacks.

The rounded notch behind the pickup opening is for the engraved brass nameplate.

To make it less fragile, I rout tiny slots into the back side at the thin points, and glue in pieces of piano wire.

Each pickguard is fitted to its body, and the edges around the F-holes, the neck pocket, and the tailpieces are trimmed to match.
